Dr. Courtney Watson’s career has broken barriers and inspired countless young professionals pursuing careers in sports medicine and athletics.
She currently serves as the Head Athletic Trainer and Director of Health & Performance for the Portland Trail Blazers after an accomplished career spanning professional basketball, Olympic competition, elite combat sports, and athlete performance management.
Prior to joining Portland, Courtney spent 16 seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks, helping lead athletes through championship-level competition while earning recognition as one of the most respected athletic trainers in women’s professional basketball.

WHY COURT’S CORNER WAS CREATED
Court’s Corner was created to provide students with opportunities, mentorship, and real-world experiences that can inspire the next generation of sports medicine professionals.
Throughout her career, Dr. Watson recognized that many students lacked access to hands-on learning environments and professional mentorship within athletics. Court’s Corner was built to bridge that gap by creating a supportive community where students can learn, grow, gain confidence, and explore careers in sports medicine and athletic performance.
More than an internship, Court’s Corner is designed to help students discover their purpose, build relationships, and create pathways toward future careers in sports and healthcare.
BUILDING FUTURE LEADERS
Dr. Watson’s greatest passion extends far beyond athletics — it’s mentorship.
Over the years, she has helped guide and inspire hundreds of students interested in sports medicine, athletic training, health sciences, and professional athletics.
One of Court’s Corner’s former interns, Charvette Wilson, began her journey through the program years ago and now works alongside the Portland Trail Blazers athletic team at the professional level — a powerful reflection of the long-term impact mentorship and opportunity can create. Courtney’s mission continues to focus on empowering students to believe in themselves, pursue excellence, and build meaningful careers within sports and healthcare.
